How to Enable and Setup "Custom Robots Tags" on Blogger Post Editor

Blogger has recently added a search preference feature called "Custom Robots Tags" to Blogger post editor page. One of the features of search preferences was robots.txt and Robots tags which could be set only for homepage, archives, posts and pages. But now you can edit these settings even for individual posts and pages right from Blogspot post editor. One of the benefit of this settings is that unlike meta description the tags are not shown in the browser source file for your blog. Let's find first where does it see and how to configure.

I Can not see "Custom Robot Tags" in Blogger post editor window, Why?

Blogger post creator/ editor page has a few more options at the right side (eg; Labels, Schedules, etc..). In addition of these features blogger has recently added a new option called 'Custom Robot Tags'. For some bloggers it is not be shown in their Post Creating Page (New post window). But don't worry I can really inculcate you.


Custom Robot Tags' plays an important role in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of a Blog. This feature contains 10 tags they are all, noindex, nofollow, none, noarchive, nosnippet, noodp, notranslate, noimageindex, unavailable_after:

Blogger has facilitated the users to enable/ disable each tag for every individual post/ page. If the 'Custom Robot Tags' option is not shown at the right-hand corner of your blogger post editor wizard you can enable it  'Search Preference'  in settings tab of blogger dash board.

Tags Meanings
all There are no restrictions for indexing or serving. This is default for all pages
noindex Do not show this page in search results and do not show a "Cached" link in search results.
nofollow Do not follow the links on this page
none Equivalent to noindex, nofollow
noarchive Do not show a "Cached" link in search results.
nosnippet Do not show a snippet in the search results for this page
noodp Do not use metadata from the Open Directory project (DMOZ)for titles or snippets shown for this page.
 notranslate Do not offer translation of this page in other languages in search results.
 noimageindex Do not index images on this page.
unavailable_after: [RFC-850 date/time] Do not show this page in search results after the specified date/time. The date/time must be specified in the RFC 850 format.
Example: 17 May 2012 15:00:00 PST

Truly, there is no need to mind all of the tag, but the most important tags are  noimageindex, noindex and nofollow . Other tags are not recommended for small scale bloggers but focusing huge scale websites/ blogs containing thousands/ millions of pages. Such a large websites should be optimized well then only search engines can scrawl the data in the sites.

When to Use

We can have a rest after reading below too, Here are the descriptions for important three tags

noimageindex

If you have used your some private images (eg: family) in your blog post and you would not prefer to scrawl the images in that specific post , then you can check this option. Thus the images in that post could only be seen in readers reach at your blog.

noindex

If you would like to hide any post or page of your blog from listing in search engines you can simply check this tag, as this tag is tagged even the Google Custom Search will fail to scrawl it.

nofollow

When a link/ links are linked from your blog/website  to another website/ blog and you don't like to pass your pagerank to them you can make the links nofollow
