Worry not, you have a perfect solution that is an app called Agastya. Agastya would help you to perform different features provided in it. This Android app works better, you can simply control your Android device from any other phone by sending an SMS command.
It is very easy to use this app, in which you can set some commands like "silent", "loud", "vibrate" or whatever you want, these sorts of preset SMS commands are to be send from your friend's phone to perform the task. If a command "silent" switch the phone in to silent while the "loud" enables ringer. This app and either phone don't require either internet(data plan) or GPS. When you send an SMS command the app instantly replies the result.
Also this app is very useful for those who have multiple phones, that means you can read the incoming text messages and missed call information in your secondary phone, retrieving it to the phone in your pocket, even a person's contact details can be retrieved remotely. This also can be most helpful when you lose your phone.
Below are the full list of commands you can try with your phone.
- SILENT – Turn off the phone’s ringer
- RINGER – Turn on the ringer
- IMEI – Get the IMEI number* of your phone
- LAST MESSAGES – Retrieve the last 5 text messages received on your phone
- LAST CALLS – Know the last 5 missed/received/dialed numbers

[*] IMEI - Simply type *#06# to know your mobile phone IMEI number - it will help you to block your stolen mobile phone from using or accessing the network, so that the thief can't use your phone. Suppose you forgot to feed this number of your stolen phone, not worry if you have the above mentioned software installed in it, you can simply get your IMEI number simply sending an SMS to it.
I recommend Agastya, but there are many other apps which also let you to enjoy similar and different functions. Where’s My Droid is one of the most popular app it can not only turn your phone profile into ringer but also you can get your phone's current GPS location (or position ) as an SMS remotely. Though both apps incline on tacking the lost phone, In case of Agastya it works very faster as an SMS based command console. The company says that Agastya can be installed on Android 2.2 and above versions.
on a related note, Gmail enables you to Send 50 Free SMS to Phone per Day.
